In May 2025, Payson, Arizona, hosted a Wildfire Mitigation Town Hall led by Arizona Corporation Commission Vice Chair Nick Myers. The event aimed to engage the community in discussions on wildfire risks and mitigation strategies. Utility companies, including APS, SRP, and TEP, presented their wildfire mitigation efforts, such as tree and vegetation management, grid hardening, and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management shared their treatments, including logging, mastication, chemical treatments, and prescribed fires. Vice Chair Myers emphasized the importance of maintaining defensible space around homes and keeping contact information updated with utilities and county emergency management. The Commission also approved a resolution declaring May 2025 as National Wildfire Awareness Month, highlighting the need for proactive measures to protect communities and natural resources from wildfires.
