Alaska’s Smokejumpers Gear Up for Wildfire Season

Alaska's Smokejumpers Gear Up For Wildfire Season

The Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service has begun parachute training in Fairbanks and North Pole to prepare specialized firefighters for the upcoming wildfire season. Chief smokejumper Bill Cramer emphasized the importance of selecting training locations that resemble actual operational terrains. Weather conditions, especially temperatures no lower than 15 degrees, play a significant role in the training. This preparation will continue through April and May.
