A year ago, Horry County Fire Rescue battled a large wildfire in Carolina Forest that lasted nearly three months. Starting on March 1, 2025, the fire affected over 2,000 acres and required nearly 100 agencies for containment, ultimately concluding in May 2025. Fortunately, there were no injuries or destroyed homes, although some were damaged. The drought conditions exacerbated the situation, but rainfall eventually helped extinguish lingering hotspots. Authorities arrested Alexandra Bialousow for allegedly starting the fire while burning debris, violating a burn ban in place. Fire officials urge residents to be cautious with open burning to prevent future incidents.
