Officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Union County Conservation District (UCCD), and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service visited Winfield Creek to review restoration efforts aimed at stabilizing the stream bank and enhancing habitat. Funded by a Growing Greener grant, the project will unfold over three phases, focusing on habitat improvement and erosion control.
Phase 1 has completed 3,209 linear feet of work, with Phase 2 set to address an additional 2,850 linear feet using a forthcoming grant. The initiative emphasizes collaboration with local farmers and conservation partners to promote water quality improvements while benefiting agricultural operations. The ultimate goal is to restore 1.67 miles of the creek by 2029, leveraging partnerships and grant opportunities to enhance habitat for wildlife and improve conditions for landowners and local communities.
