During the Jacket Thrive Intersession, Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District hosted a "Let’s Get Wild" camp in collaboration with Mississippi State University’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture. Led by Dr. Beth Baker, the camp educated students about water conservation, water treatment, and careers in environmental science through hands-on activities.
Campers engaged in simulations to learn how water is used, treated, and recycled. They also explored watershed conservation, observing how plants can protect communities from water overflow using a 3D model. Dr. Baker, an expert in water quality and conservation, facilitated discussions on controlling water flow and preventing soil erosion.
These partnerships with MSU provide students with experiential learning opportunities and insights into future careers. The Jacket Thrive initiative, launched in 2022, aims to support struggling students with targeted learning and enrich their educational experiences.
