In 2025, Wyoming experienced over 1,600 wildfires, burning nearly 250,000 acres, surpassing the 10-year average but less than the record-setting 2024. Notable fires included the Dollar Lake and Red Canyon Fires. Increased funding from the state legislature allowed for enhanced aerial firefighting capabilities, resulting in a record number of fire response missions. The Office of State Lands and Investments is requesting approximately $225 million for its operations, including funds for the Fire Division. With climate change extending the fire season and increasing fire intensity, predictions for the 2026 season remain uncertain due to current dry conditions.
