The San Diego Foundation has awarded over $650,000 in grants through its 2025 Binational Resilience Initiative, targeting pollution in the Tijuana River watershed. Eighteen nonprofits from the U.S. and Mexico received funding for projects focusing on environmental challenges like water quality monitoring and watershed restoration. Foundation President Mark Stuart emphasized the need for collaborative, community-based solutions to strengthen the environment and enhance life for residents on both sides of the border. Notable projects include developing a water quality monitoring system, creating a hydrological model for stormwater management, and restoring kelp forests as climate defenses. Since 2022, the initiative has allocated over $3 million to support binational collaboration and environmental protection.
