A habitat restoration project for the Blue River in Silverthorne, aimed at restoring Gold Medal fishing status, is hindered by a federal funding freeze. The Blue River Watershed Group, which received a $1.8 million federal grant, reported to the Silverthorne Town Council that fund disbursement has been paused due to recent federal actions under the Trump administration. The grant is essential for engineering and design work due to temperature disruptions caused by dam releases affecting aquatic life.

The organization, in collaboration with Trout Unlimited and the town of Silverthorne, is focusing on restoring the river’s ecosystem, as studies indicate abnormal water temperatures are harming trout populations. Despite the federal judge’s order to unblock funds, many nonprofits continue to face funding delays, impacting their operational capacities. Colorado legislators expressed concern over these funding freezes and affirmed the importance of timely federal support for environmental efforts. The Blue River Watershed Group remains hopeful that the work will resume soon, minimizing delays in the project’s overall timeline.
