The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded $128,000 in grants for outdoor environmental education projects aimed at fostering science and stewardship among students in Fiscal Year 2023. Funded initiatives include:
- “Bees, Seeds, and Healthy Streams” by Adkins Arboretum and ShoreRivers, engaging second graders in exploring native plants and pollinators.
- Indigenous Perspectives Project by the Accokeek Foundation, focusing on environmental connections and cultural preservation.
- Urban Runoff Reduction Project by Living Classrooms Foundation, involving 500 Baltimore City students in stormwater management education.
Additionally, a $9,995 grant will fund teacher training for the “Wave of Plastic” curriculum at Charles County middle schools, addressing plastic pollution.
