The Fountain County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), is launching the Big Shawnee Creek–Wabash River Watershed Project. A public meeting is scheduled for March 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Attica City Hall to introduce the initiative and gather community input. Covering a 209-square-mile area across Fountain, Warren, Tippecanoe, and Montgomery counties, the project aims to enhance water quality and address local concerns.

Key components include:

  1. Watershed Management Plan: Development using local input and data to protect water resources.
  2. Education and Outreach: Engagement through workshops and community events.
  3. Water Quality Monitoring: Monthly sampling at fourteen sites starting March 2026, with assessments planned for summer 2026.

The first steering committee meeting will be on March 23 at the Fountain County Courthouse, encouraging community involvement.
