A woman in Marion, North Carolina, was charged after her cigar allegedly ignited a wildfire now spanning 420 acres. Hilary Brooke Inman, 38, admitted to accidentally starting the fire by removing hot ash from her cigar while near a wooded area. The blaze, located near Jumping Branch Drive, is 50% contained as of April 1, with local and state fire crews actively engaged in combating it due to the risk to structures. The affected area has many downed trees from a previous event, increasing the fire’s intensity. Crews are using helicopters and drones to assist in firefighting efforts.
