Laguna Wildfire Update:

Incident Commander: Andrew Nordquist
Acres Affected: 11,634
Start Date: June 25, 2025
Completion Status: 87%
Location: Coyote Ranger District, NM

Personnel: 158 firefighters
Resources: 3 hotshot crews, 1 Initial Attack crew, 2 suppression modules, 5 engines, 3 water tenders

Operations: Fire crews are conducting mop-up operations while managing a spot fire near Laguna Peak. Efforts include extinguishing burning material and removing hazards.

Smoke Conditions: Light winds have caused hazy air with moderate quality affecting northern NM, reaching unhealthy levels in some areas. Improved air quality is expected with incoming moisture and weekend thunderstorms.

Weather: Tonight’s winds will calm, leading to smoke dispersal into the Rio Grande Valley. Expect warm conditions with additional moisture aiding storm development over the weekend.

Public Safety: Avoid the fire area to ensure safety during operations. Drones can hinder firefighting efforts.

Closures: A closure order is in effect for specific forest lands to protect public safety.

Contact Information: For further details, reach out via phone or social media.

The USDA Forest Service works to conserve natural resources, manage public land, and connect communities.
