Los Angeles and much of Southern California issued a regional air quality alert due to the Madre Fire, which has expanded to nearly 80,000 acres. Strong winds are bringing smoke into the region, exacerbating hazardous pollution levels from July 4th fireworks, as reported by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD).

The AQMD warns of serious health risks from the pollution, including cardiovascular and respiratory issues. Residents are advised to stay indoors, keep windows closed, avoid strenuous activities, and use air purifiers. The fire remains 10% contained, with its cause under investigation.
