The Columbia River Gorge is officially in wildfire season, recalling last year’s significant fires like Larch Creek and Whisky Creek. David Jensen, Fire Chief of Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue, emphasized the importance of a strong initial attack on fires, highlighting their team’s readiness with 86 wildland fire responses in 2024. Community members are urged to adhere to burn bans and promote fire safety by reporting risky activities. Engine boss trainee Colby Gibbs advised creating defensible spaces around homes to reduce fire risks. The state is enhancing support through funding and technology. A fire safety program, “Living with Fire,” is planned for the public at the Granada Theater.
