Brad Parry, vice chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, has won the inaugural Schnitzer Prize of the West, a $50,000 award for collaborative environmental solutions. The prize recognizes his leadership in the Wuda Ogwa Cultural and Land Restoration Project in southeastern Idaho, particularly efforts at the historic site of the 1863 Bear River Massacre. Since acquiring the 350-acre property in 2018, the project has focused on ecological recovery through creek restoration, invasive species removal, and planting over 70,000 native plants. This initiative has also improved regional water systems, returning an estimated 10,000 acre-feet of water annually to the Great Salt Lake. Parry was chosen from nearly 100 nominees across 12 states, and future nominations will open in May 2027.
