Authorities in North Gyeongsang have initiated emergency measures following devastating wildfires that occurred from March 22 to 31, impacting the region significantly. The provincial government is prioritizing housing and economic support for over 34,000 displaced residents, providing emergency relief payments of 300,000 won ($220) in severely affected areas. The wildfires burned around 48,239 hectares, destroyed over 3,400 homes and resulted in at least 30 deaths and 45 injuries.

Temporary housing will be arranged for evacuees currently in shelters, with plans for modular homes and permanent housing. Small businesses affected by the disasters are set to receive compensation and support, alongside a proposed national legislation for long-term recovery. Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized the need for improved forest management and disaster response systems due to increased wildfire risks from climate change.

In a show of solidarity, a memorial altar has been established in Daegu to honor the victims, with the city committing funds for recovery efforts. Emergency supplies and medical services are also being extended to those affected by the fires.
