The Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute (AWI) received certification from the New York State Department of Health through the Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP). This state-of-the-art lab, established in 2010, focuses on analyzing surface and ground water in the Adirondacks and has contributed significantly to clean water protection, particularly regarding road salt’s environmental impact. ELAP certification enhances AWI’s ability to secure state and federal grants, addressing pressing water quality issues. AWI invites the public to an open house on May 21 to celebrate this achievement, featuring lab tours and activities. For more details, visit adkwatershed.org.
